Copper Theft
Social Landlord Takes a Stand with SmartWater
A housing association is putting a stop to the theft of copper pipes from its properties with the aid of SmartWater.

Chester and District Housing Trust (CDHT) has rolled out SmartWater solutions in a drive to thwart thieves who were targeting its empty properties.

One offender has already been convicted of burglary after breaking into a trust property that was protected with the special liquid.

Pat Cullen, community safety co-ordinator for CDHT, told The Chester Leader newspaper: “Thieves who enter trust properties as trespassers to steal should be in no doubt that robust action will be taken against them by the trust, which will work with the police to arrest those responsible and authorise their prosecution through the courts.”

Police have access to the ultraviolet lights which show up SmartWater on objects and people and can call on SmartWater Technology Ltd's specialist teams for support if needed.

SmartWater evidence has been used to secure over 1,000 convictions and maintains a 100% conviction rate in court.

SmartWater’s investigators regularly assist police and, business anti-crime teams and other agencies in putting in place a multi-layered risk-management approach to crime prevention.
