Move To Protect Valuable Stone
A smart move has been made to crack down on stone thefts in three villages.
Thefts of expensive stone In Black Hill in Sabden and Trapp Lane and Simonstone Lane in Simonstone, continues to be a problem. To deter burglars police are now using SmartWater, an innovative crime reduction tool designed to help protect property from thieves.
It is a colourless liquid that can be used to mark property or as a spray to shower intruders when they enter premises protected by the system.
The spray covers offenders with a harmless solution, which is invisible to the naked eye, but is detectable on the skin, hair, footwear and clothing under special lights.
Police Community Support Officer Matt Thornton, who has been patrolling the areas, said steps are being taken to prevent stone thefts. He commented: “We are targeting these areas and stop checking vehicles and individuals where appropriate. We have also been marking stone with SmartWater and putting-up posters in the areas most affected."
