SmartWater kits were splashing about on the Brickhill ward this week.
On Monday, borough councillors who represent the ward were out in the community supplying residents with the crime prevention kits.
SmartWater is a property marking system which carries a unique forensic code for each household signed up to the scheme. It has already been installed in 900 properties on the Brickhill Ward and councillors are keen to rollout the scheme further due to its proven track record at reducing crime.
An extra 400 SmartWater kits have been bought for Brickhill, as part of the Ward support funding scheme, and these were distributed free to residents. Ward councillors, together with council officers and the Police, visited homes to demonstrate how to mark their property with the SmartWater.
Equipment which can be marked includes electrical items, jewellery, mobile phones and any removable items, for example, satellite navigation systems or removable CD players. A registration form will be completed to ensure that SmartWater is unique to the resident. Once this is done lost or stolen property will be easily traceable.
Cllr Tim Allebone who is one of the councillors who represents the Brickhill ward said: “As councillors, we continually seek innovative ways to serve and support our community. SmartWater is establishing a successful track record in reducing crime while giving peace of mind, particularly to some of the more vulnerable sectors of the community.”
SmartWater was distributed free to residents in Northampton Road, Westfield Road, Oakley Drive, Milton Avenue and Roberts Street.
