Workington police in Cumbria are cracking down on burglaries in the area by marking people’s property.
A team of officers and police community support officers are offering people living in six streets in the town centre the chance to get their property marked free-of-charge.
Wybrow Terrace, Warwick Place, Queen Street, Roper Street, Dora Crescent and John Street are being targeted in the scheme. Property will be marked using SmartWater which is a method likened to DNA profiling. SmartWater is a water-based liquid that is used to mark vaulables, each uniquely encoded to a licensed user, and under ultraviolet light, even the smallest trace of SmartWater illuminates.
