A survey of over 2,000 properties reveals SmartWater is a top deterrent.
SmartWater, a forensic liquid which helps stolen items be traced back to their owners, has helped deter burglars across Sefton, according to recent figures.
Crime prevention officers and Home Watch carried out a survey of all 2,207 properties across the borough that have used a SmartWater kit, and discovered that only one house had been burgled since the owner had started using SmartWater. This equates to a 99.97% success rate.
In addition to marking their belongings, residents also display SmartWater stickers in their windows as a deterrent.
Crime Prevention Officer, Kevin Kehoe said: “In some cases houses either side have been burgled. These results indicate that the kits and signage have provided a valuable protection for the residents.”
