Increased security on two Halton Industrial estates in Cheshire, including the use of SmartWater forensic property coding systems, has seen crime levels slashed.
Burglaries have fallen dramatically by 75 per cent in Halebank, Widnes and 42 per cent in Astmoor, Runcorn following the deployment of SmartWater coupled with a new mobile CCTV system and auto number plate recoginition.
Clr Rob Polhill, board member for regeneration, said: “The new security infrastructure on each estate has increased security and given potential thieves the message that any offenders will be caught. The results show the benefits of partnership between the police, Halton Council and local firms.”
Phil Buckley, Halton’s crime reduction advisor, said: “This is great news. I believe these reductions in crime are due to the commitment of the police and businesses working together and also the wider range of steps put into place to prevent and reduce crime.”
