SmartWater announces a new product specifically designed to protect
copper
A
recent rise in the worldwide price of copper has sparked a massive
demand for the metal and led to a dramatic increase in the number
of copper-related thefts across the UK.
Gas pipes, copper earthing cable, lighting conductors, even copper
or bronze statues have all been targeted by organised thieves for
the sake of their scrap value causing untold damage and inconvenience,
not to mention safety issues.
SmartWater’s proven crime reduction strategy is at the forefront
of combating this growing epidemic. Using cutting edge forensic
technology, the cable can be simply dipped in or sprayed with a
uniquely coded liquid that provides irrefutable batch identification
and absolute proof of ownership. SmartWater can withstand a range
of intense operating conditions and will remain traceable long after
any DNA or Dot based products, which can be attacked or removed
with relative ease by a determined criminal.
SmartWater used in Police Operation against Professional Gang
of Copper Thieves!
Police in South Yorkshire have recently launched “Operation
Apparent”, which is focusing on the theft of piping and cylinders
from void properties. Officers are covertly using SmartWater to
apprehend professional gangs targeting copper.
Following a series of copper thefts, police swooped on a scrap
metal yard in Doncaster and found marked cylinders and piping that
were identified as stolen using the SmartWater system. It appeared
that the criminals had tried to scrap off the incriminating SmartWater
but even the debris left behind on the ground was identifiable.
The gang members were arrested and subsequently charged.

News has spread fast amongst the criminal fraternity, making copper
marked with SmartWater too hot to handle.
Most recently the SmartWater Strategy has been adopted by electricity
suppliers CE Networks to protect substations and similar premises
from victimisation.
